Step 1: Get the MP3
- Find the song on YouTube and copy the link — or just type its name in the box at the top of this page.
- Choose 320kbps (why) and press Convert, then Download.
- Move the file into one music folder, for example
Music/Spotify local. Keep it there: Spotify remembers where each file is.
The file arrives as Artist - Title - (yt320mp3.com).mp3 with tags and cover art, so Spotify shows the right name and artwork.
Step 2: Turn on local files in Spotify (desktop)
- Open the Spotify desktop app on Windows or Mac.
- Click your profile picture → Settings.
- Under Your Library, switch on Show Local Files.
- Click Add a source and pick your music folder.
- In Your Library, open Local Files: your MP3s are there.
Step 3: Put them in a playlist
Create a playlist (or use an existing one) and drag the local files into it. Playlists are how local files travel to your phone.
Step 4: Get them on your phone
- Make sure the phone and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi, with Spotify open on both and the same account signed in.
- On the phone, open Spotify's Settings → Local Files and turn on Local audio files.
- Open the playlist on the phone and turn on Download. The local tracks copy over from the computer.
On Android, Spotify can also show audio files that are already stored on the phone (for example in your Downloads folder) once Local audio files is on — download the MP3 on the phone with the Android guide and it appears without a computer.
Troubleshooting
- Local files greyed out on the phone — the playlist is not downloaded yet, or the phone was not on the same Wi-Fi. Repeat step 4.
- A song disappeared — the file was moved or renamed. Put it back in the source folder.
- No cover art — the file has no embedded artwork. Files from YT320MP3 always include it.
- Wrong song version — search by name and check the duration before converting.
Tips for a clean library
- One source folder only; sub-folders per genre are fine.
- Use 320kbps so local tracks match Spotify's own high quality.
- For a whole YouTube playlist, use the playlist converter and Download all as ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload MP3s to Spotify?
Not to Spotify's servers. Spotify plays MP3s from your own device as "local files": you add them in the desktop app, put them in a playlist, and download that playlist on your phone.
Do I need Spotify Premium for local files?
On desktop, local files work on free accounts too. Getting them onto your phone through a playlist download needs Premium.
Why don't my local files show up on my phone?
The phone and the computer must be on the same Wi-Fi, both apps must be open, Local audio files must be enabled in the mobile app's settings, and the playlist must be downloaded on the phone.
Will the song show the right name and cover?
Yes, if the file has tags. Every MP3 from YT320MP3 has artist and title tags and square cover art, so Spotify shows it like any other track.
